The Supreme Court of the United States will review a case involving social security benefits rights to surviving children conceived posthumously.

Australia: NSW Supreme Court Grants Ownership of Deceased Husband's Sperm to Widow

A widow received court approval to take ownership of her deceased husband's sperm collected hours after his accidental death.  Unfortunately, the widow will be unable to conceive a child through artificial reproductive technology within the jurisdiction of the court of New South Wales.  In that jurisdiction, the gametes cannot be used to conceive a child unless the owner of the gametes consented.  

The widow will collect the gametes and likely travel to a friendlier jurisdiction.
